Philadelphia
Few cities anywhere offer the unique lifestyle advantage of Philadelphia. Often called "the world’s largest small town," you’ll discover a friendly, small-city atmosphere in what is actually one of America’s largest cities. Here you’ll enjoy all the theater, shopping, restaurants, museums, and culture you’d expect from a major metropolis. Nearby, are New York City, Washington, DC, Atlantic City and the Jersey Shore each offering endless possibilities for entertainment, culture and nightlife. Within two-three hours are the Pocono Mountains, the Delaware Watergap, and the Amish country.

PCA & Philadelphia
There are 271,658 Philadelphia residents age 60 years and older, representing 18% of the total City population. Within the population, 39% are at least 75 years old, 10% are age 85 and older, and over one-third are living at or below 150% of the poverty level. In addition, the minority senior population continues to swell, representing 38% of the City’s elderly.

In America, the number of older Americans aged 60+ has increased nearly ten-fold between 1900 and 2000, from 4.8 million to 45.8 million. The percentage of older Americans has more than doubled since the start of the 20th century, from 6.4% in 1900 to 16.3% in 2000.

During the 1990s, the most rapid growth of the older population occurred in the oldest age groups. The population ages 85 to 94 years increased by over 37%. Astoundingly, the 95 years and older population increased almost 35%.

With the aging of the "baby boom" generation, the size of the older population is projected to grow to 70 million by 2030. After 2050, for the first time, there will be more people over 60 than under 18 in the United States. As evidenced in Philadelphia and across the nation, the aging population will continue to grow. And with this growth comes the need for a compassionate, highly skilled workforce to meet its demand. As PCA expands its services it will continue to seek employees interested in joining the exciting and growing field of elder services.
